Some of my favorite designers are automotive designers. I not only like these designers for their, in my opinion, fantastic designs, but for their contributions to the companies they were employed as well as to automotive communities.
My favorite designer is one of the least known, despite his design being one of the most recognizable to car enthusiasts. My favorite car is the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner designed by Plymouth. However, in 1970, modifications were made to the Roadrunner to make it more aerodynamic to win NASCAR races. The product was the Plymouth Superbird, perhaps the most recognizable NASCAR, driven and made famous by the most famous NASCAR driver, Richard Petty. Its designer, Gary Romberg, was a literal rocket and aerospace scientist who worked at NASA as well as Boeing in the aerodynamics team and then moved to the Chrysler (Plymouth’s parent Company) racing division and designed the Superbird.

One of my favorite design groups is the Pininfarina automotive design group. My all time favorite Italian super car is the Ferrari Enzo, I grew up when that car came out and it hooked me on Ferrari automobiles, but there’s just something special about the Enzo, that’s different than anything else. Ken Okuyama of Pininfarina designed the Enzo and In my opinion, the proportions of the Enzo are the best out of any previous or modern supercar. I also especially appreciate the homage it pays to F1 racing with the pointed nose, as well as Ferrari’s founder, Enzo Ferrari’s radical ambitions.
